A Fishy Breakfast
Message Listening Guide
Guiding Question: How does Jesus respond to those who have failed Him?
The Recommissioning of Peter (John 21:1-22)
Beachfront Miracle: After the resurrection, Jesus appears to His disciples while they are fishing in Galilee. The miraculous catch echoes the moment of their original calling (John 21:1–6).
Breakfast by the Fire: Jesus prepares a meal for His disciples. The charcoal fire (a rare Greek word used only here and in John 18:18) intentionally recalls Peter’s denial (John 21:7–14).
Love Reaffirmed, Mission Reassigned: Jesus asks Peter three times, “Do you love me?”—giving him the opportunity to affirm his love where he once denied it. This is more than forgiveness—it’s restoration and recommissioning (John 21:15–17).
A Unique Call, a Singular Focus: Jesus tells Peter that his path will include suffering and death. When Peter looks at John’s future, Jesus redirects him: “What is that to you? You follow me” (John 21:18–22).
The Point: When failure says, “You’re done,” Jesus still says, “Follow me.”
Application:
Jesus doesn’t just forgive repentant followers—He restores them to meaningful mission.
Loving Jesus means loving His people.
Your calling may look different, but your focus must remain the same: “You follow me.”
